Leslie Kirsh is a registered psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. She earned her Master’s degree in clinical counselling and psychotherapy from the University of Toronto.
Leslie works with individuals, couples and families, and specializes in working with queer and trans youth. She approaches her therapy work from an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed lens, helping clients understand the connections between structural oppressions (e.g. transphobia and homophobia) and mental well-being.
Leslie is trained in several modalities of therapy that she draws from on a case-by-case basis to best suit client needs, including:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
- Attachment-Based Family Therapy
- Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- Emotion-Focused Therapy
- Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Leslie also has extensive experience facilitating support groups for parents who have just learned of their child’s gender identity or sexuality. She uses an attachment framework when working with queer/trans youth and families, which focuses on repairing ruptures within the parent/child relationship.
In addition to Umbrella, Leslie works for a children’s mental health agency providing therapy for youth and their families.
